May Books I Want

Nath and I used to do post monthly new releases at our joint blog, Breezing Through. Those were the good old days. Those posts really kept me up to date on new releases and Nath always brought a few books to my attention that I might have overlooked. So I thought in a throwback to those days, I’d post a few books I’m looking forward to this month.

I really enjoy Stacey’s writing. It’s more women’s fiction than romance but her characters are so endearing and real. Plus the dogs on the covers. They typically match the dog in the story! LOL

The Unexpected Everything by Morgan Matson

Andie had it all planned out.

When you are a politician’s daughter who’s pretty much raised yourself, you learn everything can be planned or spun, or both. Especially your future.

Important internship? Check.

Amazing friends? Check.

Guys? Check (as long as we’re talking no more than three weeks)

But that was before the scandal. Before having to be in the same house with her dad. Before walking an insane number of dogs. That was before Clark and those few months that might change her whole life.

Because here’s the thing – if everything’s planned out, you can never find the unexpected.

And where’s the fun in that?

I’ve had my ups and downs with Matson but definitely more ups and the downs weren’t that bad so I’m hoping she has another winner on her hands with this one. I haven’t been reading a lot of YA over the last couple of years (New Adult has been filling that hole in my heart) but there are still some YA authors I continue to buy and Matson is one of them.

Smut by Karina Halle

What happens when the kink between the pages leads to heat between the sheets?

All Blake Crawford wants is to pass his creative writing course, get his university degree and take over his dad’s ailing family business. What Amanda Newland wants is to graduate at the top of her class, as well as finally finish her novel and prove to her family that writing is a respectful career.

What Blake and Amanda don’t want is to be paired up with each other for their final project but that’s exactly what they both get when they’re forced to collaborate on a writing piece. Since Amanda thinks Blake is a pushy asshole (with a panty-melting smirk and British accent) and Blake thinks Amanda has a stick up her ass (though it’s brilliant ass), they fight tooth and nail until they discover they write well together. They also might find each other really attractive, but that’s neither here nor there.

When their writing project turns out to be a success, the two of them decide to start up a secret partnership together using a pen name, infiltrating the self-publishing market in the lucrative genre of erotica. Naturally, with so much heat and passion between the pages, it’s not long before their dirty words become a dirty reality. Sure, they still fight a lot but at least there’s make-up sex now.

But even as they start to fall hard for each other, will their burgeoning relationship survive if their scandalous secret is exposed or are happily-ever-afters just a work of fiction?

Karina is an auto-buy author for me. She has a nice backlist that I’m slowly making my way through so I never run out of her books to read. I like her writing style, her characters and their chemistry is always off the charts.

Lauren Layne is another auto-buy author. And I’ve been reading about musicians lately. Which isn’t a bad thing because there’s enough difference that I don’t feel like I’m re-reading the same thing twice.

Too Hot to Handle by Tessa Bailey

I really enjoy Tessa’s writing and I always look forward to her latest release. Plus I like motorcycle riding heroes.

I only started reading Penny Reid last summer when Rosie recommended her when we met up at RWA last year. I’m so glad I listened to her. I’ve enjoyed every Reid book I’ve read to date.

I really enjoy Sarah’s writing and falling for a sibling’s best friend is plot catnip for me! I’ve got this one to review for Book Binge so I should hurry up and read it.

Marrying Mr. Winterborne

This is the only historical I have in this post. I don’t want to say I’m over that genre because I read at least one a month, but I’m not taking chances on new authors. I’m mostly just buying auto-buy authors. That being said, Lisa is Lisa and she’s an auto-buy author. This one sounds good too. I like the idea of a shy heroine with a backbone of steel.
